Submission Preparation Checklist

Before submission, authors must ensure that their manuscript complies with the following requirements. Submissions that do not meet these criteria may be returned for revision prior to peer review.

1-Article Categories and Word Limits

Authors must select the appropriate manuscript category during submission and comply with the following word limits.

Word limits apply to the main text and exclude the title page, abstract, references, tables, figure legends, and supplementary material. Authors should ensure that their manuscripts remain concise and within the applicable limit.

2-Manuscript Preparation and Formatting

All manuscripts must be prepared in English and submitted as Microsoft Word files (.doc or .docx).

The following formatting requirements should be followed:

  • Font: Times New Roman, 12-point.
  • Line spacing: Double-spaced throughout the manuscript.
  • Margins: One inch on all sides.
  • Page numbering: Number pages consecutively.
  • Headings: Use clear and consistent section headings.
  • References: Use the Vancouver referencing style.
  • Tables and figures: Number consecutively in the order in which they are cited in the text.
  • Abbreviations: Define abbreviations at first use, except for standard units and universally recognized abbreviations.
  • Units: Use standard international units (SI) wherever applicable.

The manuscript must be carefully proofread for grammar, spelling, clarity, and consistency before submission.

3-Requirements for Different Article Types

3.1 Original Research Articles

Original research articles should report scientifically valid research using an appropriate study design and methodology.

The manuscript should generally include:

  1. Title
  2. Structured abstract (objectives, methodology, results, conclusion)
  3. Keywords
  4. Introduction
  5. Materials and Methods
  6. Results
  7. Discussion
  8. Conclusion
  9. Declarations
  10. References
  11. Tables and figures, where applicable

The abstract should generally be 200–300 words and include appropriate headings such as Objective, Methods, Results, and Conclusion.The Methods section must describe the study design, setting, study population, eligibility criteria, sample-size calculation where applicable, data-collection procedures, outcome measures, ethical approval, and statistical analysis.The Results section should present findings clearly, using appropriate tables and figures where necessary. The Discussion should interpret the findings, compare them with relevant published research, acknowledge limitations, and explain their implications.

3.2 Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses

Systematic reviews and meta-analyses should address a clearly defined research question and use a transparent, reproducible methodology.

The manuscript should include:

  • Title
  • Structured abstract
  • Keywords
  • Introduction
  • Methods
  • Results
  • Discussion
  • Conclusion
  • Declarations
  • References

Authors should describe the databases searched, search strategy, eligibility criteria, study-selection process, data extraction, risk-of-bias assessment, and synthesis methods. Meta-analyses should report the statistical methods used.Systematic reviews should follow the applicable PRISMA reporting guidelines. Authors should provide a completed checklist and flow diagram when applicable. Registration details, such as a PROSPERO registration number, should be included when relevant.

3.3 Short Articles and Brief Reports

Short articles should present concise, clinically or scientifically relevant findings. The manuscript should generally include a title, abstract of up to 200 words, keywords, introduction, methods, results, discussion, conclusion, declarations, and references, as applicable to the study.Authors should focus on the principal findings and avoid unnecessary detail.

4.4 Case Reports

Case reports should describe clinically important, unusual, educational, or diagnostically challenging cases that provide a clear learning point.

The manuscript should generally include:

  • Title
  • Abstract of up to 200 words
  • Keywords
  • Introduction
  • Case Presentation
  • Discussion
  • Conclusion or Learning Points
  • Patient Consent Statement
  • References

Authors must obtain written informed consent from the patient or an authorized representative for publication when required. Identifying details must be removed unless their publication is specifically consented to and ethically justified. Case reports should follow the applicable CARE reporting guidelines.

3.5 Editorials

Editorials should discuss important issues in medicine, healthcare, research, medical education, or public health. They should be concise, evidence-informed, and relevant to the journal's readership.Editorials may be invited by the editorial team or considered for publication at the editor's discretion. The maximum main-text word limit is 1,500 words.

4-Title Page and Anonymous Manuscript

The title page should contain:

  • Full manuscript title.
  • Full names of all authors.
  • Institutional affiliations.
  • Designation or academic position, where applicable.
  • Name, email address, and contact details of the corresponding author.
  • ORCID iDs, where available.
  • Word count and number of tables and figures, where requested.
  • Funding and conflict-of-interest information, as applicable.

The main manuscript file should not contain author names, affiliations, acknowledgments, or other information that directly identifies the authors. This requirement supports the journal's double-anonymous peer-review process.Author information should be entered accurately into the OJS submission system and should match the title page.

5-Manuscript Submission Through OJS

All authors must submit their manuscripts through the official PJAMMR Open Journal Systems (OJS) online submission platform. Authors must create an account before submitting a manuscript and must follow the journal's Instructions for Authors.

Step-by-step submission procedure

Step 1: Create an account

Authors must first register for an account on the PJAMMR OJS platform using the registration page:

Authors should provide accurate information, including their full name, institutional affiliation, email address, and other required details. The corresponding author should ensure that the account details are correct and accessible.

Step 2: Log in to OJS

After registration, authors must log in using their registered username and password. Authors with an existing account should use it rather than create a duplicate.

Step 3: Start a new submission

After logging in, select the option to make a new submission and follow the instructions displayed by the OJS system. Choose the appropriate manuscript category.

Step 4: Enter manuscript information

Enter the manuscript title, abstract, keywords, author names, institutional affiliations, corresponding author details, and other requested information. Ensure that the information entered into OJS matches the manuscript files exactly.All authors who meet the journal's authorship criteria must be listed in the submission system in the correct order. Every listed author should approve the submitted version and agree to the submission.

Step 5: Upload the manuscript and supporting documents

Upload the main manuscript and all required files through the appropriate OJS file-upload fields. These may include:

  • Title page with author information.
  • Anonymous main manuscript.
  • Tables and figures, if uploaded separately.
  • Ethical approval or exemption documentation, where applicable.
  • Informed consent documentation, where required.
  • Author contribution statement.
  • Conflict-of-interest and funding declarations.
  • Reporting checklists, such as PRISMA or CARE, where applicable.
  • Cover letter and other documents the journal requests.

Files must be complete, readable, correctly labeled, and prepared according to the PJAMMR guidelines.

Step 6: Complete the required declarations

Authors must provide all applicable ethical, authorship, funding, conflict-of-interest, consent, and originality declarations. Authors are responsible for ensuring that all information is accurate and that the manuscript complies with the journal's publication ethics requirements.

Step 7: Review and formally submit

Before final submission, carefully review all entered information, uploaded files, author details, and declarations. Complete every required OJS step and use the final submission command to submit the manuscript.

Saving a draft or uploading files without completing the final submission process does not necessarily mean that the manuscript has been submitted successfully.

Step 8: Track the manuscript

After submission, authors should check their OJS dashboard and registered email address for confirmation messages, editorial decisions, reviewer comments, revision requests, and production queries. Authors should use their OJS account for subsequent submission-related actions and keep their login credentials secure.

Important submission instructions

  • All manuscripts must be submitted through the official PJAMMR OJS platform.
  • Manuscripts must comply with the journal's Instructions for Authors before submission.
  • Manuscripts submitted by email or through other channels will not be treated as routine submissions unless specifically authorized by the editorial office.
  • Incomplete submissions may be returned to the authors for correction.
  • Authors must not submit the same manuscript simultaneously to another journal.
  • Submission does not guarantee acceptance or publication.
  • Authors must respond to editorial queries and revision requests within the period communicated by the journal.

6-Ethical Approval and Research Ethics

All research involving human participants, human data, or human biological material must comply with applicable ethical standards and institutional requirements.Authors must state the name of the approving ethics committee or institutional review board, the approval number where available, and the approval date where applicable. If formal approval was not required, authors should explain the basis for the exemption where relevant.Research involving human participants must comply with the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki and applicable national and institutional regulations. Informed consent must be obtained when required.Research involving animals must comply with applicable animal-welfare legislation and institutional ethical requirements. Provide the relevant approval details.Clinical trials should be registered in an appropriate public trial registry when required. Authors should provide the registry name and registration number in the manuscript.

7-Informed Consent and Confidentiality

Authors must obtain informed consent from participants when required by the study design, ethical approval, and applicable regulations.For case reports, clinical images, or other material that could identify a patient, written publication consent must be obtained when required. Authors must protect participant confidentiality and remove unnecessary identifying information.A statement confirming consent should be included in the manuscript where applicable. Consent forms containing confidential personal information should not be included in the manuscript file intended for publication.

8-Authorship and Author Contributions

PJAMMR follows the authorship principles of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).

Each author should meet all four ICMJE authorship criteria:

  1. Substantial contribution to the conception or design of the work, or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data.
  2. Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content.
  3. Final approval of the version to be published.
  4. Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work and to ensure that questions concerning the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

All listed authors must meet these criteria. Individuals who do not meet the authorship criteria should be acknowledged appropriately, with their permission where required.

An author contribution statement should be provided. Changes to authorship after submission require a valid reason and approval from all affected authors, subject to the journal's policy.

9-Conflicts of Interest and Funding

All authors must disclose financial and nonfinancial relationships that could influence, or reasonably be perceived to influence, their work.

The manuscript must include a conflict-of-interest statement. If no conflicts exist, authors should state: “The authors declare no conflict of interest.”

All sources of financial support, grants, institutional assistance, and other relevant funding must be disclosed. If the research received no specific funding, authors should state this clearly.

10-Plagiarism, Duplicate Publication, and Research Misconduct

Submitted manuscripts must be original and must not have been published previously, except where the journal's policy explicitly permits a particular form of prior dissemination. Manuscripts must not be under consideration by another journal at the same time; maximum 19% plagiarism. PJAMMR may screen submissions for plagiarism, text recycling, duplicate publication, fabricated or falsified data, inappropriate image manipulation, and other forms of research or publication misconduct.

Manuscripts that do not meet acceptable standards of originality or research integrity may be returned, rejected, or handled under the journal's publication ethics policies.

Authors must properly cite all sources and obtain permission for material reproduced from copyrighted sources where required.

11-Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools

Authors who use generative artificial intelligence (AI) or AI-assisted tools in preparing a manuscript must use these tools responsibly and transparently. Authors are required to verify the accuracy, originality, and reliability of all AI-generated or AI-assisted content, including references, data, statistical interpretations, and scientific claims.

Examples of AI tools include ChatGPT, Claude, Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, Jasper, Writesonic, Copy.ai, Rytr, Notion AI, Wordtune, Sudowrite, ProWritingAid, DeepSeek, Grok, Meta AI, Mistral Le Chat, and Jenni AI. This list is not exhaustive and may be updated as new tools become available.

AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors. Human authors remain fully responsible and accountable for the manuscript's content, accuracy, originality, research integrity, and final submitted version.

When AI use falls within the journal's disclosure requirements, authors must clearly disclose the name of the tool used, the purpose of its use, and the relevant details in the appropriate section of the manuscript. AI tools must not be used to fabricate or manipulate data, generate fictitious references, falsify results, misrepresent findings, or produce misleading scientific content.

The use of AI tools does not replace the authors' responsibility to ensure compliance with research ethics, publication ethics, confidentiality, and the journal's author guidelines.

12-References and Citations

PJAMMR requires the Vancouver referencing style.

References should be numbered consecutively in the order in which they first appear in the text. In-text citations should use Arabic numerals in the journal's prescribed format. The reference list should follow the same numerical order.

Authors should:

  • Verify the accuracy and completeness of every reference.
  • Include the correct author names, article title, journal title, year, volume, issue, page range, and DOI where available.
  • Cite original and relevant sources wherever possible.
  • Avoid unnecessary self-citation.
  • Ensure that every in-text citation has a corresponding reference-list entry and vice versa.

Authors are responsible for checking all references before submission.

13-Tables, Figures, and Supplementary Material

Tables and figures should be necessary, clear, and directly relevant to the manuscript.

Tables must have descriptive titles and be numbered consecutively. Figures must have appropriate legends and be numbered in the order cited in the text. Images should be of suitable quality for editorial assessment and publication.

Authors must obtain permission to reproduce copyrighted tables, figures, photographs, or other material when required. Any reused or adapted material must be properly acknowledged.

Supplementary files should be clearly labeled and referenced in the manuscript. Authors must ensure that supplementary material does not contain confidential information or material that should not be publicly released.

14-Peer Review Process

PJAMMR uses a double-anonymous peer-review process. Author identities are withheld from reviewers, and reviewer identities are withheld from authors during the review process.

Research manuscripts should normally be evaluated by at least two independent external reviewers, subject to editorial assessment and the journal's review procedures.

The editorial team first assesses submissions for scope, completeness, originality, ethical compliance, and suitability for review. Manuscripts may be returned without external review if they do not meet the journal's requirements.

Editorial decisions may include acceptance, minor revision, major revision, or rejection. Authors must respond to reviewer comments professionally and provide a point-by-point response when submitting a revision.

Payment of any manuscript processing or publication fee does not influence peer review and does not guarantee acceptance.

15-Open Access Policy and Copyright

PJAMMR provides open access to its published content in accordance with the journal's stated open-access policy.

Published articles are made available under the Creative Commons Attribution–Noncommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0) license, subject to the journal's applicable licensing terms. This license permits sharing and adaptation for noncommercial purposes, with appropriate attribution and compliance with the license conditions.

Copyright and publishing rights must be governed by the journal's published copyright policy and the applicable author agreement. The website, article PDFs, licensing statements, and author agreement should use consistent wording.

17-Corrections, Retractions, and Appeals

PJAMMR addresses concerns about published articles in accordance with its publication ethics policies and applicable best practices.

Corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions may be issued when justified by errors, research misconduct, ethical concerns, or other matters that affect the reliability or integrity of the published record.Authors who wish to appeal an editorial decision should submit a reasoned explanation to the editorial office. Appeals will be considered according to the journal's procedures, and the decision will remain subject to editorial review.

18-Data Availability and Reporting Guidelines

Authors should include a data availability statement where appropriate, indicating whether the supporting data are publicly available, available on reasonable request, restricted for ethical or legal reasons, or not applicable.

Authors should follow relevant reporting guidelines according to their study design, including, where applicable:

  • CONSORT for randomized controlled trials.
  • STROBE for observational studies.
  • PRISMA for systematic reviews and meta-analyses.
  • CARE for case reports.
  • STARD for diagnostic accuracy studies.
  • ARRIVE for animal research.

Submit relevant checklists, flow diagrams, and registration information when required.

19-Archiving and Repository Policy

Authors should consult the journal's officially published archiving and self-archiving policy before depositing accepted or published manuscripts in institutional or subject repositories.

The journal's policy should clearly specify which manuscript versions may be deposited, where they may be deposited, and any applicable conditions, including licensing, attribution, embargoes, and links to the published version.

Authors should follow the policy in force at the time of publication. Information about repository permissions must be confirmed through the journal's official policy rather than inferred from a general institutional website.

20-Digital Preservation

PJAMMR should describe its digital preservation arrangements accurately and in accordance with its actual participation in recognized preservation services or systems.

Any claim of participation in LOCKSS or another preservation service should be made only when that service actively covers the journal's content. Authors may consult the journal website for current information about digital preservation.

21-Final Submission Checklist

Before formally submitting a manuscript through OJS, authors should confirm that:

  • An OJS account has been created, and the corresponding author has logged in.
  • The manuscript has been submitted through the official PJAMMR OJS platform.
  • The manuscript falls within the journal's scope, and the selected article category is correct.
  • The manuscript follows the applicable word limit and formatting requirements.
  • The title page contains complete and accurate author information.
  • The main manuscript is anonymized for double-blind peer review.
  • All authors have approved the submitted manuscript and author order.
  • Ethical approval or exemption details are included where applicable.
  • Consent requirements have been met where applicable.
  • Funding, conflicts of interest, author contributions, and data availability are declared as applicable.
  • References follow Vancouver style and have been checked for accuracy.
  • Tables, figures, permissions, and supplementary documents are complete.
  • Applicable reporting checklists and trial registration details are included.
  • The manuscript is original and is not under consideration by another journal.
  • All required OJS steps have been completed, and the final submission has been confirmed.
